Questions to ask
Questions to ask on any preschool or student care visit
Take these to every centre you visit, ours included. Our answers sit beside each one, so you can hold us to them on the day.
How many adults are in the room my child would use?
Preschool: up to one educator to five children in Playgroup and up to fifteen in Kindergarten. Weekend Wonders: up to ten children, led by our facilitators and teachers. Playschool: two of our own teachers lead every session. Student Care: teachers trained in student care, with ongoing training here.
Which phonics and maths programmes do you use, by name?
In Preschool, Read Write Inc phonics and Singapore Maths, taught concrete, then pictorial, then abstract.
How will I hear how my child is doing and how often?
Preschool: a daily note, a fortnightly newsletter and a six-weekly update and review against your child's learning plan. Playschool and Student Care: every day, at pickup or by message.
How much Mandarin is there?
Preschool: daily Mandarin, as daily exposure and use rather than full bilingual immersion. Playschool: Mandarin School (Le Kai Hua), fully in Mandarin, twice a week.
How do you handle settling in?
Preschool: as long as your child needs. Some settle in a morning, some take a term. Playschool: you can stay. In Mini Explorers and Preschool Transition, drop-off starts once your child trusts the teachers.
Who can collect my child?
Only the people you've named. A Child First Aider is on site whenever we're open.
Can you support a child with additional needs?
Tell us about your child before you come. For Playschool and Preschool, Claire Michael, our Head of Early Years and an ECDA-certified Inclusion Officer, will give you a straight yes or no before you travel.
What the fee covers and doesn't cover is in the next section and on each programme page.

"What truly set Agora Colearning apart was meeting Ms. Claire. She went above and beyond … allowing us to get a real feel for the teaching style, environment, teacher-child interactions, and overall atmosphere."
